That is the thing I don't have a hood. This is a fixture. Is it worth the hassle?

IMO, I'd look into something like a current sunpod or the coralife aqulight. Reason being that i've herad no so good stuff from those types of lights. Just remember, you get what you pay for and this hobby ain't cheap. Especially for a college students like me.

I would stay away from the Odyssea brand stuff. A fire hazard waiting to happen, IME.

These are brand new with a different type of ballast. I think we will have to wait to see awhile before we can start calling the new ones fire hazzards.

I'd like to hear some people s opinions on the new fixtures myself. I haven't heard any complaints about the 07 model's and the version 4's. Now the previous versions....thats different. lol

Check out HelloLights.com, they have some good deals and better stuff. The DIY/Retro save some money without getting fire hazard equipment like Odyssea.

Actually, they have come out with several 'new' models before, each one not really any better than the last. The odds are against them to say the least--I am not expecting much.

I know it must be tempting. Just keep in mind that weather or not you buy this fixture that you heard the warnings. Now it wll be in the back of your mind every time you leave the house or go to bed. How much is your piece of mind worth to you.
