It's bubble algae with what looks like cyano growing on top. Although it doesn't look exactly like cyano, b/c looks more fuzzy than filmy. Someone else might be able to tell you exactly what the red algae is. Hard to tell the texture from the pics.

There's nothing good about this stuff. I've had it in my nano many times, off and on, and it's a nuisance algae. I've never had anybody categorize it or officially name it for me.

Do not pop them in the water column because the jelly like stuff inside them has spores that will cause this stuff to spread like crazy. You need to syphon these out when you do your next water change. Use something sharp to pry them off of the rocks (don't pop them) and then immediately syphon them out.

Cut back on your lighting by and hour or so and cut down your feeding until they go away. I really thinking over feeding and lighting are contributors to this.

The Green stuff... sometimes. Not this stuff. The inside of these bubbles are completly disgusting. I've never seen any crab (Emerald, touch them. PLUS, with the spores inside, you wouldn't want a crab tearing into these. Maybe Dr. Ron can give an opinion on these.

I have 4 emerald's. I got them for my Q-tank and took rock with bubble algea on it and put it in the Q. It gives them a smaller food source area and they ate it.

yeah that's definately some kind of bubble algae. I'd just get it out. It can't be good, because bubble algae tends to spread pretty fast, and become a nuisance.

I was able to eliminate it from my tank using the method I mentioned in my first post. He may want to literally remove this piece of rock, pry off the bubble algae, give the rock a quick fresh water rinse to discard any spores that may be left behind, and then put the rock back in place. This stuff SUCKS and not only will it grow on your rock, it will start to grow on the lower back glass of your tank!

You're right about it growing and spreading. I had it on my returns and had to take them off. It may be in the back of my tank growing however, I'm not tearing it down to find all the bad things. I try to take care of the ones I see. If the rock can be removed, Rude boy has the simple solution. I had it on some that were easy to remove and put them in Q- . After they were clear, I put rock and all 4 crabs in the display and I haven't seen any more.
