Goby Selection??????

I am contemplating adding a Goby or two to my new 220 which is showing alot of algae on the sand bed. I was leaning towards a watchman diamond goby but a friend told me they shoot sand all over the place although highly efficient sand sifters. My tank will be predominantly fish with some soft corals and lots of live rock.

Anyone have any experience with these???? What would be my best choice. I dont want something that will grow over 7 inches though...
Thanks

I have a diamond watchman goby and it has the sand sparkling clean. I haven't had any problems with sand being thrown on rocks or corals, but it will shift the sand around.

You could definitely go for 2. If there is nothing in the sand bed, they will still eat food that drops to the bottom. Mine is brave enough to swim to the surface and eat prime reef flakes now!

Yea I say diamond, I just got one for my tank cause my bed was pretty bad, by the next day no lie, clean! Very cool fish, cool to watch also. and I say 2 your tank is big enough for two. I have it in a 40 and I'm hoping I can get another cause he wont go to the otherside yet.

I have a diamond watchman to and my sand bed is quite clean. You should be ok with two in that big tank.

Do these guys remove anything bad from our sandbeds? like having 1 in a 55g for example? I want to keep a mandarin starting in the summer when my tank is older and i already have pods allllll over- i am not sure if they would be sifting pods as well as who knows what ou tof the sand?

They may eat some pods, but most of them hide in your rockwork during the day I believe.

i have an orange spotted diamond goby and he is great at cleaning the sand. However, they do make mounds and piles of sand -just like the dunes! Mine will spit sand out on some of the live rock and polyps near his hiding spot but i just use a turkey baster to blow them off. Nothing that is harmful, just annoying at times. Every 2-3 days I flatten out some of his sand dunes cause mine piles the sand high-they he gets busy piling it up again! I would add another one to my 100 gallon if I could, but a lot of people have suggested my tank is too small for 2 sand sifting gobies. Good Luck Jolene
