Kent Marine Pro Scrapers

hey guys, I'm looking at this particlar item. Anybody have any experience on them? they have acylic and glass version. I have a glass tank. I assume the only difference between the 2 is one ABS, one stainless steel

Any pros and cons is greatly appreciated

I've used them. I have an acrylic tank so the version I use is more like using a wet noodle to try and clean or coraline algae. Its pretty useless. You basically rub off the algae, not scrape it off. A ton of work and really frustrating to use. In fact I don't even use it anymore. I just attach some micro mesh to my magnet cleaner and use that. Works pretty well.

Glass however might be a completely different story. I suspect a metal edge on the Pro Scraper will work a whole lot better than the plastic used on acrylic.

If you're looking for an algae cleaner, go with a MagFloat. I have the Kent scraper too but I use it for coraline algae and whatever the Magfloat doesn't remove.

I use a magfloat with a little piece of a green scrubby pad under it. With the float alone you need to be VERY careful that you don't pick up a big grain of sand and scratch up the glass.

I have the srapper for the glass tank and it works well for all the coraline algea. Better than a razor blade or credit card.

I use the kent pro scraper in my acrylic tank. I cut up a piece of credit card and wedge it in along with the acrylic blade. 10X better than the acrylic blade they sell. I have also used their glass blade in my acrylic sump, and it's more effective, but also more likely to scratch the acrylic.

the glass one works good, but can scratch the glass (you heard me right) with minor ease

I think the blades warp or bend easy and then scratch when the metal edge is'nt straight

I highly recommend getting a Mag Float and attaching one of these.

I have a Kent Pro Scraper as well and this blade blows it away. You do not have to get wet and you don't have a long handle to maneuver around your lighting. Makes short work of scraping coralling algae.

Can you explain the picture there Marino? I am not understanding how that blade is attached to the float.

Some one on Reef Central was making these plexiglass things with a razor blade on them that you use PVC glue to attach it to the Mag Float. They work GREAT at cleaning the glass. You just have to be REAL careful not to get near the silicone seals on the tank. Hopefully someone can help you with who was making them. I have had mine for over a year now.
If I find something I will let you know.
BILL

You can purchase it online from Premium Aquatics.

I picked mine up at a LFS. They are well worth the money!
