have you got any pics of diatoms on you rocks and sand? i want to compare them to mine.

can look like as little as this, or it can be very very thick. Just depends.

i have diatoms!!! they are going as fast as they came though. tanks 10 days old.
not worried about em. they appeared, got really bad, and then 2 days later they are disappearing. waiting for my next round of algea. whoo hoo!!! lol day 1 of diatoms day 2: day three was nasty

Then you just post your photo, and ask what it is...
Looks like diatoms getting out of control to me...I'd up the flow to that area, but I would scoop it out with some of the substrate(trying not to stir it up and blow it around) and rinse it really well, and return the substrate back.

that looks a bit like dying cyano to me. That stuff will go away in time with less feeding with good quality foods, more flow, time, things that eat it.. many factors contribute
