Octopus DNW-200 Needlewheel Recirculating Skimmer w/pump

On the Octopus DNW-200 Needlewheel Recirculating Skimmer w/pump
do you have to add the feed pump or can it be gravity feed from the overflows?

Thanks,

I'm 95% that you would need a pump. Even if you didn't need one I think the skimmer would be much less efficient.

Why would it be less efficient, new water is constantly entering skimmer from over flow and then Recirculation Pump in skimmer does it's thing.

i'm pretty sure you need the venturi on a pump to create the microbubbles that the particulate matter binds to by surface tension to create the foam skimmate.

otherwise it would be much less efficient. it'd a waste of a great skimmer.

I was originally looking at a H & S skimmer and was advised that they can be fed from overflows or pump fed. But they cost around $650.00. So I'm looking for a Recirculating in a lower price range, but one that can do the same thing.

and BTW the Octopus DNW-200 states on premium aquatics (Special needle wheel produces more micro bubbles which highly increases the skimming ability ) so Not sure if pump is really needed, but if you guys do please recommend
