Elephant Ear or Actinodiscus?

Hello everyone.
My name is demian, I am form Argentina... I have had this coral for about 1 year and a half.. when I got it it was only about 2 inches diameter.. but now as you can see it gained some size

At noon it can get as big as 8 inches
I though it was an actinodiscus but I heard this is an Elephant ear coral and that it could be dangerous for small fishes...what do you think?.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not an expert by any means, but Elephant ear mushrooms are usually considered part of the discosoma genus (i've read others that say it's a rhodactis, which is confusing), while actinodiscus is a genus itself (i'm confused as to how they differ or if they differ at all from discosomas -- they may actually be one in the same). It could also be an Amplexidiscus, which are more what I think of when I think of corals eating things, as they are rumored to have an "intoxicating scent" that lures fish to it. As to which genus your mushroom belongs to, I have no idea...

The shroom I most frequently see referred to as an elephant ear is rhodactis mussoides. What you have is a rhodactis, but not a mussoides. Amplexidiscus fenestrafer is the only shroom I know of that will consume live fish, it is most commonly referred to as the giant cup mushroom. HTH

That was the scintific name they gave me "Amplexidiscus fenestrafer" I searched the web and I got a few pics but they don't look exactly the same as mine...
You are saying mine is a rhodactis?.. That's better
