Will a rabbitfish DEFINETLY eat a CB Shrimp?

I’m just doing some background research on rabbitfish (particularly the magnificent foxface). Will my CB shrimp have no chance? I’ve read that long nose hawks eat ornamental shrimp, but mine has not touched the CBS. I will have a fuge set up soon that I could move my shrimp into so that he does not become a $20 meal.

Current Tank Info: I find it odd that there are children starving in this country and yet we euthanize millions of stray dogs and cats every year and then incinerate the bodies. Not only that, but we make it illegal to butcher the meat. -MarkS

Yes they are known to be herbivores. Careful with their dorsal fin spines.

I'd be more concerned about the hawkfish and the shrimp. There's a few wacky tangs that go after shrimp, but never heard of a rabbitfish doing it. Definitely be careful of their spines though.

ok,, maybe it was some misinformation I read about the rabbitfish (not uncommon). The hawk does not even look at my CB shrimp. I found out after I bought him about their potential appetite for ornamental shrimp. But I do keep him well fed with a meaty meal each day.

Has anyone actually gotten “stung” from a rabbitfish? I hear it’s VERY painful.

My one spot has never bothered my cleaners. My friend has a pet store here, she was taking a rabbit fish out of the tank that had died. Poked herself, and ended up in the ER. I imagine it depends on how sensitive you are.

My foxface does not bother my coral banded shrimp. He sure got rid of some caulerpa growing on the rocks! I feed him strips of the dried algae & plankton using one of those suction cup clips inside the tank. He is an awesome fish, he changes colros iwthin a minute, at night he turns from his regular yellow and black/white to a camo color to blend in with the rocks.

My blue spotted toby does the same thing (changes color at night). Since I'm feeding lots of veggies with my tang and toby I think the foxface will be a good addition.

thanks for the info!

My foxface was put in my tank to eat algae. And he does. My coral banded shrimp has no problems with him.
