Photo period for new rock?
I will be getting a box of cured Pukani tomorrow. I'm told it will be covered in Coraline ET AL. There is no other life in the tank except 10lbs of rock I got last week. What is the best way to ease the transition and keep as much as possible of the color?

Liverock does not require lighting at all.

i did 4 hours the first 2 weeks, then 8 hours the next 2, i believe it helps keep some of the corriline and stuff alive, but its not needed

I don't think you will kill the coralline by having a longer light cycle. It might bleach a little, but will come back if you keep your water params in check.

Coralline will grow with low light conditions but you want good lighting if you want it to show off its true colors. I always like to give reef stuff a 10-12 hour photoperiod as that is the same as a natural reef. To acclimate, I raise the lights up and then lower them over a period of time, say two weeks, until they are at the permanent level. This method decreases the initial light reaching the tank without decreasing photoperiod. It probably is not really needed with LR but it can't hurt.
