itty bitty pieces.
I was wondering if anyone had some purple coralline encrusted small bits. A friend of mine is trying to turn his saltwater over slowly to reef and he has lots of live rock from Sailfin but it has never caught. He is just looking for about a pounds worth little crap that he can seed his tank with and get it started. He is willing to pay some $. Thanks.

what does this tank have on it? in it? and such. seems odd that he has lots of live rock, but never any coraline algae. how long has said tank been set up and how long has the live rock been in it?

Unfortunately, there's probably better choices for live rock
than Sailfin, such as shipping a box from Premium Aquatics in Indy. Probably cheaper, too. Lowell |

my roomate and i are planing on going over to inland aquatics in 2 weeks or so. their live rock is awsome i bought about 20 lbs for my 40 there when i was starting out. great corliane. the only prob is the cost it think that 20 bs was the most expensive purchase next to my lights for the tank to include the proteen skimer.
i thnk they sell for like $8 per pound right around there atleast. they also sell mysis, gamaris, bristle worms, and babby stars(all realy awsome things to add to your tank and a real treat when one strolls past wile you watch) you guys and any one else from cima are welcome to ride up with us. i think i will put a thread up when i can pin him down to a date he realy likes to work and it is hard to get him o do fun stuff but i'm sure i can get him over there soon. scott P.S. even if you don't want to buy rock there it is an awsome store to visit they aqua culture corl and fish in these enormas bath tub like tanks that fill a huge ware house it is an awsome place to visit. |

You need some, not a lot, of coraline in the tank to get it started. It doesn't "just appear" as I was told when I started in the hobby. You could even use some LR gravel that has some coraline on it.

I have some rock that has coralline and is cheap. Aiptasia here and there on some but the small stuff doesnt have much. I've heard of people grinding it up and sprinkling it around the rocks to seed it.

His tank has been set up for 4 months and I got him some PurpleUp that he has been using but not for the best so far. I think I am going to try to drag him to Premium Aquatics here next weekend.

I found it kicked in after 6 months. Don't spend a ton of money. Just be patient.

Keep the lights low and the calcium high over 400 and you will have more than you want in no time. I can put a rock in my tank and in 2 weeks there will be corline spots all over it.

Another option is to order from G.A.R.F. They offer what they call grunge and it does just what you are after. It seeds the tank.
