Beginner's SPS
I am about ready to buy my first SPS corals. I have good light, high flow, and I'm about to have DO/RI water. I already know I want Montipora digitata and Porites cylindrica, but I am thinking of starting with three aquacultured frags. What would be a good beginner's SPS out of these:
Pocillopora damicornis (aquacultured) Pocillopora verrucosa (AC) Seriatopora stellata (AC) Stylophora pistillata (AC) |

Anyone? Are none of these good for beginners? Are all of them?

Pocillopora
Seriatopora stellata Personally I haven't had any trouble with these but I don't have experience with stylos. Also digitatas are fairly easily to keep. Last edited by demeyer2; 02/01/2007 at 10:07 PM. |

Montipora Capricornis are about the easiest sps you can start with. Digitata would be up there with it.

Orange digitata are really easy, grow well and don't need perfectly stable conditions. Elkhorn is another good starter SPS, it also grows very very quickly. Dark Pocilloporas are also really good starters, stay away from the lighter ones as they have a tendency to brown out if your not careful with the lighting.

Digitata and orange plate are really fast growers.
