My tank has been running over two months now and this whole week my tank has had a brown tint to it and the viewing windows get covered with brown algae very quickly during the day even after cleaning ... All my snails, shrimps, and fish are fine no deaths. My cheato has not being doing good and i removed it today. Last i check my levels were

well its likely your nitrates, but what are your phosphates as well? Are you using tap water or RO?

Also, what light schedule did you have for your chaeto alga? Were you running it just during the day, or just during the night? (or at least all day)

Last, its a new tank...new tanks always have algae problems at the beginning so imo its prolly all good.

.

Im using RO/DI water. My phosphates are zero.. I had chaeto on oposite of my regular lighting with atleast 8 hours of no light.. Im also thinking its just being a new tank but with my other two tanks i never experienced anything like this.

I agree. This sounds like a diatom bloom. Keep doing your regular water changes and cut your lighting cycle and feeding back a little if you can.

I have never seen any benefit from cutting back the light (other than saving a few hours of bulb life). It just comes back when the lights come on anyways.. I've always had better luck leaving them on.
