hatfielj's New 120g SPS tank Build
Well, I'm now only a couple of weeks away from finally being able to put together my new tank that I've been planning for the last couple of months. I'm planning on keeping alot of sps and a few nice fish. Here are the current specs/plans:
Tank: 48"X24"X24" 120gal Great Lakes Aquariums Tank with a single center overflow and built in closed loop returns Sump: 36"X18"X18" Great Lakes Aquariums sump that will have a separate compartment for the skimmer, a refugium, and a return section. Stand: Custom Built 36" tall stained with a minwax 'china red' stain Skimmer: H&S 200 1260 in sump skimmer Lighting: Maristar HQI/T5 combo fixture with 2X250 watt 14K bulbs and 2 X 54watt T5 atinics, Bluewave VII ballast Pumps: Return pump Mag 12 (1200gph), Closed Loop Mag 18 (1800gph) Flow: 2 Tunze nanostream 6055's on a single controller (when they come in) and the closed loop and returns ( about 40-50X turnover) Topoff: Tunze Osmolator System (haven't bought this yet) Eventually I'll be adding a calcium reactor, but not sure which one yet. The stand came in today and I went to the store to take pictures of it. It looks a lot more orange in the picture than it does in real life. Its actually more of a burnt red color in real life. My wife picked out the color, but I actually like it alot The tank is not going to be in for another 2 weeks, but it is going to be made of 1/2" thick glass and will have a single center overflow box with five holes: 2 for the sump, and 3 for a closed loop (1 intake and 2 outputs so I can use a scwd or om) The return lines will come out 1 on each end and 1 in the middle. This should give me plenty of options for directing flow all over the tank and with the nano streams I think I'll be getting flow everywhere I need it. Thats about all the info I have right now. Here are some pics: This is the future site of the new tank. ![]() We'll be moving the chair and the table to another room and the tank will go right in front of the stair case. Here's the skimmer: ![]() I wanted to make sure I really got the biggest skimmer I could fit in the sump since I plan on keeping a lot of sps. Hopefully it will do a nice job. And here's the stand: ![]() Like I said already, its more red looking in real life. I don't have the best camera and the lighting was pretty dim in the warehouse where its sitting. I really wanted a simple design like naka's 180. More updates to follow as soon as the tank gets here! |
