Question Protein Skimmer

I've been purchasing equipment a little at a time to start my reef. I have a brand new Berlin Classic Venturie protein skimmer. Will this skimmer do the job for a 72 gallon bow front fish tank? I know there are better skimmers out there and I have been looking for a used one in reef central. But, if I can get away with this skimmer, I can use the money that I was going to use to purchase a used one to purchase something else (like some live rocks).

I am not sure what the Berlin you have is rated for, by this I mean by your tank size. But seems like it would be better than no skimmer at all!!

probably be OK with a couple of mods. It must be overdriven. I have a throttled back mag 9.5. Also probably going to need a Kent Turbo Venturi here most people say a red sea won't skim. Just need to do the right modifications. Mine pulls tons of stinky wet or dry crap since those two mods. I too wanted to save some money. Ended up costing me 80 dollars but that's better than 2-3 hundred for new skimmer.

The skimmer is rated up to 250 gallon. kweidner1 Thanks for the suggestions on the mods. I will be purchasing them soon. Is there anyone else that has this type of skimmer and likes the way it skims or do they have any regrets? Are there any other mods that I can do to make this skimmer better?

You will hear alot of flack about that particulat skimmer here on RC. Not everyone has six hundred bucks to spend on a skimmer, however. Make it work for what you need and you will be fine. One day you will get some extra cash and splurge on a top of the line skimmer, but it will work until then.

I got a Euro-Reef (used) for my 75g setup. They seem to be good skimmers, but no one has any objective data.
