I have a small 5.5 set up with a couple of corals, about 8 lbs of live rock, 1/2" thick sand bed, 60W of PCs, hang on skimmer, hang on filter but no fish. I had a purple dottyback at first after allowing the tank to cycle for over a month and it did just fine. I wanted to add a skunk shrimp so I returned the over aggresive dottyback to my LFS. Well I want to add another fish and have tried twice to add a damsel and both have disappered and died I'm assuming. When first introduced they appear to be doing fine and look like they are just a little shy and scared in their new tank. Eventually they will start to get familiar and swim around and appear to do just fine. Within 24 hrs of being introduced both started (have attempted this twice seperatly) to hide between the live rock so that they could not be seen and eventually I would not see them again. I noticed the last time I tried to do this that after the first day the damsel would come out from the live rock caves when nobody was looking and appeared to have a damaged fin. I want to try this again, it's been about a month since the last one, can anybody give me some feedback on what's possibly happening to my fish?

Maybe try something that require less room like a yellow clown goby that perches on rocks and corals and don't need much swimming room and stay small! I have a Sargent major and blue yellow tail damsel and they love to wander all over the tank continously! Maybe the size of the tank is stressing the damsels!
