HQI info please????

I have searched, but did not find......

I am about to do a Metal Halide HQI setup and would like some opinions on wattage. I have a 75 gallon tank and plan on keeping SPS at the top and Softies at the bottom.

Should I do 2 150w Hqi's 14,000 Pheonix OR
2 250w Hqi's 14,000 Pheonix?

I will also be supplementing with 2 T-5 HO's/Icecap Reflectors. Dont know what bulbs yet. Could do some 10,000k for about 4 hours a day just to get more growth.?.?.

I am looking for good growth, but not have to have a chiller....WHAT ARE RC'S Thoughts????

Help me decide!

Thanks For the help!

not in my opinion you could get better growth from 250s or a t5

i'll going with 2x 250s in my 65gal. How deep is your tank? If its 24" like mine i would also go with the 250s.

Also its really doesn't cost that more for the 250s.

20 inches or less, 150's are fine. That's from Borneman, Bob Fenner, Ninong, Mike "the light God", Marine Depot, & many reefers. I have 2 x 150's and have had great results.

Yep. 150's unless you plan to upgrade to a deeper tank.

I run dual 250 watt HQIs over my 75 reef, with VHO actinics to supplement. I figured for the small price difference, I'd rather have a little too much light versus (possibly) not enough for some species. You can always move pieces down in your tank.

i paid ten dollars more for 250s than i would have paid for 150s
allows me to run a 20k and still get great growth

That's a good point, but couldn't you run 2x150 and 2x54W T5HO actinics, and get the same effect for 100 less watts/less heat?

I've never seen a 20K bulb (I am very interested in them except for the crappy par) So i don't even know if my idea would give the same effect.
