I have two including one in the stand and the noise isnt bad IMO. Louder than a MAg 9.5 though which is probably because of the exteranl pump versus submerisble for the most part.

I have one, running my closed loop (I switched from a externally used mag drive) and it is driving me up the frickin wall!!! This thing sounds like the rumble of thunder in the Black Hills right before all heck busts loose. I'm serious, the noise is terrible compared to the Mag drive. I had the mag drive plumbed in line, sitting on some cork disks and the only reason I don't switch back is the flow from the Gen X is MUCH better. But I'm switching to a Snapper as soon as I can afford it. We have to turn the tv up two notches more than we did before we put the pump on.
Just my experience though, I have a friend who swears his is quiet. |

I have two - one is quiet and one is loud. The one that is loud is running a protein skimmer. The one running as just a return pump is quiet. I don't think these pumps should be used for anything pressure related.
