Problem with thermometer

I bought a "Rainbow Lifegard Little Time Or Temp" thermometer for my main tank. I've had a Coralife thermometer, but wanted to use that one for water change buckets. Anyway, my old Coralife is reading temps of 79ish degrees. The new "Rainbow Lifegard Little Time Or Temp" thermometer is reading 72ish degrees . I have my heater set to 79 degrees.

Anyone use these Rainbow thermometers? WTH

Will the thermometer read down to 32 Deg? if so take the thermo in question and put it in salted ice water. Just table salt. Check it in about 20 minutes or so. Should read near or at 32 ? if not, you know how far it's off.... I'd try another thermometer before I went changing the heater setting.

HTH
