MRC MR-1 plumbing

I have a Gen-X PCX40 pump and an MRC MR-1 on the way. I'm just trying to figure out if I can supply the main tank AND the skimmer with this pump. I have a 15g sump under a 90g tank and I want to take the output of the skimmer up to the tanks return line (I have an overflow kit) but I'm not sure how powerful the output of the skimmer is going to be.

My other thought is to plumb a PVC pipe (for the skimmer supply) up and over the back of the tank into the overflow box in the tank, and have another for the return from the skimmer. So I would have two pipes going up the tank, one for the supply, and one for the return of the skimmer. Sort of like a closed loop system.

I really want to go with the second option, as the 15g sump is actually a refugium and I don't want 1100gph going through it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!!
