will topping off DSB w/ new sand hurt DSB?
i need to top off my 4 year old 4" DSB w/ about an inch across front. will this cause any harm to the DSB. the sand i'm adding is not live, but oolitic sand, just like i have in tank now, except slightly more coarse.

It is my understanding that having to add to the DSB periodicly is to be expected.

the added flow has created dunes which pushed some sand to corners and middle. i only really need it in front center, but i'll give everything just a slight topping so color looks even. DSB are 4-6".

That is fine. I would personally add a 1/2 inch at a time and a few days later add the other half. That way you do not risk smothering some of the sand fauna and allow them to migrate towards the surface layers of the sand that is oxygen rich. Most of the sand fauna live in the 1st inch or so so you want to give them time to move up as you deepen the sand bed.
