Aquafuge

I know this may be a silly newbie question, but here goes. Where am I suppose to place chaeto inside my Aquafuge? Is it suppose to go in the compartment next to the intake or the compartment next to the outake or both? Do I just fill the whole fuge with the chaeto? Is it suppose to float or sink or tumble? Thanks!

Gary

Just toss it anywhere in there. It's not picky. Just make sure it gets light. I had mine in the middle, then it grew out to both the intake and outtake, so make sure and trim it when necessary. And it'll just sink wherever you drop it. Chaeto's absolutely wonderful. It'll keep your parameters nice and healthy, plus it's a great place to grow a good copepod population.

Thanks. When should I start to see the chaeto make a difference in reducing my trates? Days or weeks?

Thanks. Mine doesnt float but is sitting on the bottom. Is chaeto suppose to float? It doesnt get much water flow at the bottom. Is this okay or do I need to add another power head to the main compartment. Thanks again.

It should take up to a month to see changes in nitrates I'd say, but this all depends on how fast the chaeto grows. As long as there is no detritus settling on top of the chaeto it should be fine. It doesn't need to be tumbling. I find chaeto to be very forgiving in these respects. Another powerhead wouldn't hurt though.

I found that the moisture proof plate that comes with the Finnex light fixture for the Aquafuge wasnt allowing enough light through so I removed it. Should I be running this light fixture with or without this plate? I didnt think the chaeto would be getting enough light with this covering the the 18watt Jalli White PC Bulb.

Thanks,
Gary

I keep mine one... Just clean it everynow and then...

I also put a tiny PH to tumble the cheato inside my large HOB aquafuge w/ PS.

trust me that light is good enough... people grow them with flood lights or typical 18watt spiral lights.
