No pods in fuge. Why???
I have tons of amphipods, isopods, etc., in my main tank, but I rarely see any in my refugium.
Any thoughts? I have a bunch of LR rubble in my fuge. I have had cheato in it, but it keeps slowly melting away. When I do water changes, I vacuume out a bunch of the detritus from the fuge. |

Detritus (plant based) is primarily what these animals feed on. Removing it all the time will hinder their reproduction a bit, but they will eventually show up anyway as time passes and food sources build. Chances are, there is much more food availability in your tank as compared to your refugium. Or, it could just be that you have a lot of places for them to scurry into. How long has the refugium been set up?

Maybe add some rock from your tank to the fuge. Feed some phyto and stop vacuuming detritus.
If your chaeto is not growing, i suspect that you do not have enough nutrients.

vacuuming out the detritus might also be vacuuning oit the pods as they were feeding.. that should'nt remove all of them tho.

Don't vacuum out your fuge. It's unnecessary and is probably why you have no pods in there. Your tank should have all the filtration it needs on it's own without you cleaning up, let the tank do the job.

Thanks. I will stop vacuuming out the detritius, and see if that makes any difference. The pods do have tons of places to hide in the display tank, with no real predators at this point.
