Salt Ratio
Anyone know the round-about ratio of salt to water for sg 1.024? I thought I had read a per cup to gallon ratio somewhere?

its usually a half cup per gallon, but its different for many salts. It just depends on the salt. Which one do you have? Also, some will say that it is 1/2 cup per gallon, but only to get the water to 1.021 or something like that. So you'd really need something like 3/4 cup per gallon or something like that, you know what i mean?

Why not just check with an instrument. You should always double check to just make sure your at the correct salinity.
Edit: If you have a reef it's better to have your salinity around 1.027

Ya what rivers said is true too. But 027 might be a tad bit too high. 026 is the top i go to, but i like staying right at 025. I'm not saying stuff wont live in 027, because it will, but if it fluctuates up at all, you can kill stuff.

A rounded 1/2 cup of I/O per gallon gives me a reading on my refractometer of 1.025/1.026

~ 3.2:100=sea salt:water for 1.024 salinity. 1.026-1.027 is preferable, with the average for natural seawater being at 1.0264. Edit--that number is by mass, not volume. I think a good refractometer would be the best route.

I have a fractometer and do test my salinity accordingly. I just wanted a little guidance for the initial mix for my water change water and then will customize to get to 1.025. I'm currently setting at 1.025. I'm using Tropic Marin - Pro Reef salt. Thanks for the quick replies. I will maintain at 1.025-1.026

at what temp would you get those readings? say for example if a half cup at 80 degrees gives you that SG that same amount at 70 degrees would be a higher SG right?
