mussels in a 12 gallon tank

Hi,

What do you all think about keeping mussels in a small -- 12 gal -- tank? About two months ago, I got three off the side of my dad's dock and dropped them into my tank. Then, friday I got another mussel from Albertsons (yea the grocery store!) and dropped it in too. (It was shut, and alive, when I got it.)

I know clams are supposed to clean the water, do mussels do the same? and are they good? I don't generally hear about people keeping mussels in their tanks...and I'm a newbie. Would it be a good idea to have a couple of them in the tank just as catch-all filters?

I am a bit worried that they might compete with a bubble coral I just got -- don't they might feed off the same stuff?

So many questions!

Thanks!
--Dean
