From what I have gathered from reading the boards there may be an issue with improperly sealed motors leaking stray voltage into tanks.

I don't believe that there has been an all out recall on them but retailers have been asked to return unsold stock of the pumps in question for an inspection.

I almost bought one the other day but I could not find a UL listing anywhere on the box. I am all but positive that a non UL listed Rio caused my 55 to crash. once bitten twice shy...

The pumps are making quite the splash and look cool. Sure have been lots of issues with every pump introduction last 9 mos or so. I think products are being rushed out to meet the hype.

I know Vasca is asking to get sold units back from customers as well.

The manufacturer has given us the following contact info for our customers: please call Hydor USA Inc at their customer service phone number: 866-493-6787. They have informed us that they would like to speak to all customers involved directly if possible so that they may upgrade their units.

Turned on a 4 today in my 180 Gal corner tank. The big footprint of the tank allowed my to see the water movement foot print. That is until the cloud settled down. The pump spins twin votexs 180 deg apart which provides great turbulence. A single 4 was all I needed. The stream is able to penetrate about 4' before turning back on its self to return to the pump. I plan on using 1 #3 on at each end of my 6' tank. The turbulance is a great added feature. It occurs because the motor shape splits the incoming flow to the screw into two streams. This causes two hi/low flow pulses per revolution and starts eddies in the output stream.

Bajabum.. I would unplug, and re-pack that pump.. And return it as quickly as possible to Hydor..

Don't want a problem later down the line..

Hydor still says the #1 and #4 are not affected by the recall.
