NOT enough DOC's?
Is it possible to have a skimmer not produce any skimmate due to the fact that there is not enough dissolved organics in the water for it to pull out? I have a single clown, skunk cleaner, and misc corals in a 150 with 30 gallon frag tank and also another 30 gallon sump. So I have about 200 gallons of water. Is this possible and if not what could make this happen? By the way my skimmer is a DIY venturi that has a 35" height total.

Yes there is probably nothing to skimm. At least not in dissolved form anyway.

So basically my skimmer is doing a good job. It puls out skimmate every once and awhile but not on a daily basis.

yep your load is small and the skimmer is very tall. Stir up some sand and it will skimm the organics in the sand.
