SPS and DSB

Looking at the Italy's best photo's I see DSB, but i've been reading about how DSB eventually build up phosphates and need replaced. How do they do it with DSB? I have a frag tank basically at this time, a couple nice small colonies. Now would be the time to remove the sand if it would help my sps tank.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but my search feature doesn't work.

There can be successful tanks with both DSB's and BB styles of set-ups, look at the TOTM winners for proof of that. It is more of matter of personal preference than anything else really, though both styles have their advantages. The only real advice you should follow is to make sure that whichever style you choose, make sure you follow it headfirst and not halfway. For example:

1)DSB: Make sure you have enough depth to it, enough micro fauna, enough Live Rock, ect.

2)BB: Make sure you have enough flow, cook your rocks or siphon out detritus, over skim, ect.

The last thing you should listen to is someone telling you it must be done one way or another. The successful tanks using both methods prove thats simply not true

my skimmer is euro reef but not over-rated for my tank, though i'm using a bigger pump than the original specs. Looking at my signature of my equipment do you think i'd have enough flow? My return pump is large too, I think about 1120 gph.

I am planning on doing a deep sand bed in my new tank. I accidently in the beging put copper in my other tank to cure ick. I did some test a year later and there is still .15 . So i figure i am going to by all new live rock for my new tank. I have seen some rough forums with bad hitch hiker on un cured rock. SO i guess i will by some cured rock. My question is can you completly explain cooking rock?????
