75g tank-is 432watt t-5s too much

i upgraded from a 55g and i had 214 watts t-5s to now a 75g-the next step up is 432watts-nothing in between-thats about 5 and a half watts per gallon-is that too much???

also for metal halides-if my tank is 48inches long does that mean i need a 48 inch fixture or a they so powerful it could be smaller-im probably not going metal halides-just curious

Depends on what you plan on putting into the tank...

If you plan on putting sps, I'd say, the more the merrier.

T-5 FIXTURES GO FROM 4 TO 8 BULBS-I DONT KNOW WHY THEY DONT DO 6--ORBIT FIXTURES MAKE A 6 BULB FIXTURE 384 WATTS BUT ITS MORE EXPENSIVE AND I LIKE T-5S

The difference in those fixtures is the individual reflectors. They will pump more light into your tank than the orbits will. Honestly the 6-bulb light will probably do the same if not a little more than the 8-bulb with the large parabolic reflector. I think it's actually a wash in my opinion, because when you have to replace the bulbs on the 8 bulber you will spend at least 40 more bucks, which evens out the price a little bit, not to mention the 6 bulb will use less power and produe less heat making your tank run a little more efficient.

Why did I have to think about this soo much after I bought the 8 bulb light LOL. GL with your decision!

Depending on what you are doing, it is hard to have too much light. The question is the right kind of light for what you want your
tank to be. I have a 75g reef with a metal halides and compacts.
I use to have T5's those my wife stold for her tank .
I say go for it if that is what will work best for you!

No, that is not too much light for your tank.
