Is a CPR Bak-Pak enough???

I have a 55 gal fish only tank and I am in the process of setting up a 15 gal refugium. Is a CPRBak-Pak 2 and an Emporer 400 gonna be enough filtration? Thanks in advance for any help.

I wouldn't use the Emperor. The BakPak 2 isn't a very strong skimmer for that size tank, from what I can tell from mine. I'd get something else, personally.

I agree with bertoni, get rid of the emepror and invest in a better skimmer. I'd reccommend getting a skimmer rated for a tank larger than your 55g for the reason that you may want to upgrade to a bigger tank later and if you already have a big enough skimmer that will be one less thing to worry about. Also higher rated skimmers come with stronger pumps and therefor will do better skimming.

I have a backpack on my 40g tall and had on my 60g which is now a freshwater. It wasn't up to par for the 60g but is ok for the 40. CPR rates it for up to a 60 but of corse they exagerate it so it sells more.

Thumbs up Tunze 9010

I would not use a hang-on-back (HOB) skimmer or any skimmer that cannot produce at least a cup of skimmate a day in a heavily stocked system.

The Remora skimmers cannot produce a cup of skimmate a day. The Remora manufacturer only vouches for a half-cup in two weeks of collection. Scroll to the bottom of this webpage: http://www.proteinskimmer.com/products/Remora.htm.

HOB skimmers have problems reaching the surface scum and problems with the lower water level in a sump. The pump has to work harder when the water level is lower so there is less pressure for foam generation.

I recommend the Tunze 9010. Initially, the Tunze can be used in your display tank. When your sump is finished, it can be converted to sump use with the included sump kit.

Listen to pjf, you'll be disapointed in teh hot skimmer. Especially if you buy an aqua c remora.
