New Sump Design...?

I'm thinking about adding a sump to my 55 Gallon Reef setup, or soon to be that is.

Anyways Im completely new to the idea of a sump and Im sure many of you are well expierienced with them...

I have an extra aquarium, 15 High that I would like my sump to be...Do I have to drill this? I've researched a few sump designs and it seems most have to be drilled.

Any other ways? If not, is there a good step-by-step process for designing a new sump with materials listed and details?

Sumps are worth it, right?

No, you don't have to drill it. You can place a submersible pump in your sump and pump it up to your 55g.

How are you going to get the water into the sump? Is your 55g drilled for an overflow?

Sumps are worth it for skimming the surface, hiding equipment in it (heaters, skimmer, fuge, chiller....etc etc), increasing the aquarium in gallons, more gas exchange, more circulation, and keeping the water surface level in your 55g stable.

Have you been here and looked at the sumps section?

Here's my whole system:

You can go to my Gallery for the other plumbing picture. It has a refugium in it.
