Collecting your own "live rock"?
I was wondering if anyone in the Florida area collects there own live rock? if so where?
i was wondering this because i know there are some companies that sell rock that they say is collected in Florida waters. i also wonder if their are any laws about this? |

as far as i know - it's illegal to collect your own rock without appropriate permits.
there's tampa bay saltwater, and there's also sea life florida. sea life has permits to collect out past the keys, i believe. all in all, excellent looking rock from both places.

You can and will get tossed into jail quick and in a hurry for taking rocks in florida anymore.
Unless of course you have connections with the people who have permits. Its nearly impossible to get a permit unless you are with a university or marine research lab nowadays.

You might be able to find the actual law online and decide for yourself if it ok to take it. I know that in Hawaii you are not aloud to take rock with "visible signs of marine life" on them, but I would say that you could take rocks without signs of life.
good luck and stay out of jail lol.
