CSS 125, and good water flow is cleaning my tank

I used to be an AZ-NO3 user. I still don't think anything bad of it. But anyways, I've been battling cyano for a good two months now. My Nitrates were hitting between 10 - 15 ppms, my phosphates traceable, and film forms on the surface.

I had a Prizm skimmer and I had powerheads with filter attachments in them that restrict flow over time. Sand bed is covered with cyano.

I changed to CSS 125 a month ago. I removed the filter attachments from the powerheads, and redirected the powerheads to maximize flow althroughout.

I attached pics before melev starts posting "This Thread is Useless without Pictures". Just kidding. So I apologize for the full tank shot. The corals are sleeping. I had to turn on the light for 10 seconds just for the pic (for you all).

I am really happy with the improved skimming. I am getting a lot in only a few day's time. I tested Nitrates and it is zero. I tested Phosphates and it is undetectable, I tested pH and it stays at 8.2, kH is at 13 dKH, and calcium holding between 380 - 400 throughout the week.

Looking good...It's amazing what a better skimmer can do for you.

It's a great skimmer for the price. I have one and i would recomend using the drain line for the collection cup. I have mine draining down to a 1 gallon milk jug, it will save you a headache when the skimmer decides to go crazy and overflow

Great looking tank! I have that skimmer too and have always been really impressed with it.

I'm battling a small case of cryano too, still waiting on my two new Koralia 3's to show up but until then I've gotten everything else under control.

Keep up the good work!

I have the same skimmer and it is driving me crazy - it works well as far as pulling stuff out but I have to make sure the tube going from the pump to the skimmer is kinked in order to get any microbubbles out of it.

Good for you though. Always nice when you figure out a way to have minimum maintenance and an extroidanary system.
