What do serpent stars eat?
When I 1st got him over 1month ago, he would eat krill.
Lately he does not seem interested in it. What food do they like best? |

Have you examined him lately for parasites or damage? Mine is fed pieces of krill every other day with feeding tongs. The large ones need to have meaty suplimentel feedings. Any parameter changes or aquascape moves? I can't think of any other reason he would quit feeding.

I had to post, this morning I found a tiny black and white serpent, a hitchhiker I suppose.
WICKED! Hes on his own though to darn small for me to try and feed. From what Ive read they eat all kind of stuff in the tank off rocks excess food etc. The little guys body is about the size of half a pencil eraser with legs about 2-4 centimeters long. Good luck with yours hopefull over time mine will grow, and flourish. |

Serpents and Brittle stars both are detrivores however are opportunistic feeders and will eat almost anything from krill, to flake and everything in between. While generally considered reef safe, both have been known to gobble up small fish if they happen to come across it while it's sleeping since they're nocturnal. But that's somewhat rare and are usually good citizens.

When mine gets hungry enough, he'll sweep his arms out for the frozen food I'm giving the fish. Doesn't matter if it's algae based or meat based, he enjoys it. I'm sure yours will do the same.

Good to know.
He has been eating Krill since I got him but decided yesterday not to hang on to it. I was just curious if this was because he is sick of the taste or something. lol |
