how do I move from a 50 to a 120
I will be upgrading from a 50 gallon that has been in operation for two years to a new 120.
What is the best process? Should I seed the new tank sand bed with the old? use some of the old live rock? OR start fresh? I have a moderate aiptaisia problem that I do not want to transfer. Can I set up the new tank using my existing sump and run the old with powerheads for a few days while the new "cycles" When is the best time to move the livestock? I have one LTA, one carpet Anemone, a large green polyp mat, many pulsing xenias, and a handful of fish.

Here's a good article by Melev.
http://www.melevsreef.com/moving_a_tank.html If you don't want to transfer aiptasia, then you have to quarantine everything from your 50g and kill off your aiptasia problem. I have a heavy aiptasia problem currently being solved by some Berghia nudibranch that I introduced. After that, I'll add some peppermint shrimp and Copperband butterflyfish. I have aiptasia in my sump, on my sandbed and on my powerheads. It's everywhere. I think seeding your new tank with the old sand bed is a great idea... but, you are taking the chance of getting aiptasia again. But, that may not be too bad as it seems that peppermint shrimp eat small aiptasia.
