Purple and yellow tangs

Hello

I have a 75 gallon tank with 50 lbs of live rock. Right now I have a 2" purple tang.
I know tangs dont get a long to well but I wanted to add a small yellow tang.
Any opinions?

one thing ive always did when i added tangs was that i would always acclimate in the dark or with lights out. when the fish was released the lights werent turned on for a couple hours or even til the next day. and then i go from there. if there is some agression then i usally change up the aquascaping a little and it helps sometimes. one time though ill have to admit nothing worked and i had to get rid of the fish. good luck

How long was the purple tank in the tank? The purple tang would probably not allow another tang in the tank and maybe not even other fish.

I have a purple and a yellow together but (a) I put them in when they were small and at the same time, and (b) the tank is big (240 gal). Letting one establish dominance in a smaller tank and then adding another is probably a recipe for trouble.

From what I have read and seen, is you need to have tangs in odd numbers, so if you got another tang, you might want to 2 so you have a total of 3. Also, take note that yellows are really aggressive, according to books and such. However, this is just an observation.

you can do it in a 75... but you are pushing the small size limits for tangs in that tank....

MY YELLOW TANG KICKED MY PURPLE TANGS BUTT FOR ABOUT A DAY AND NOW THERE ALWAYS TOGETHER, THERE ALWAYS OUT, THERE MY FAVORITE(YELLOW TANG WAS IN THERE FIRST BY ABOUT 2 MONTHS AND THERE BOTH ABOUT 3'') GOOD LUCK

The purple is been in there for 5 months now.

I'm kinda scared to try, maybe i'll go with a lemon peel or something just to get a bright color in my tank.

Don't put two tangs that are the same body shape in the same tank. Second your tank is too small for the swimming room tangs need.

I personally think this is a myth, provided you are meeting the fish's needs in terms of swimming room, food, etc. Like I mentioned, I have a yellow and a purple, and I know of a number of other tanks with that combination, or other similar ones.

I know I'm the rookie around here but I disagree with you on that one.

The way I look at it, in nature these guys have several hundred thousands of gallons of water and several square miles of room to swim. The best we can offer is a 6 foot glass box. How would we make out if we had to live in a box about the size of our bathroom?

Then again we do have people living like that... We call them prisoners

By that logic you shouldn't keep any fish in your tank.

I agree... reed my signature. Also, my tang has never held up a sign in my tank that says, "This sucks...another twelve inches would be great!".

Since nobody is going to give up the hobby simply cuz it's not exactly like being in the ocean. How about we make it as close as we can? Hence the need to closely watch stocking levels.
