Deterius.

Not sure if that's how you spell it but, I have a big problem with it.
It is on my rocks an all fuzzy. And when I blow it off before I do a water change and siphon it out, it comes back.
I used to have more fish than I do now before and never had it, so that's not the problem. All my params are in check. I noticed it when I added 3 big turbo snails to the tank, I gave 2 to my brother to see if it would help out but it did not. But the one that I have poops A LOT. I am def. gonna get rid of the snail because he doesn't clean almost at all. Also I don't have very much flow at all so that might be the problem.
I am going to add 2 korallias to my tank for more flow. Will this help?

Thanks in advance.

More flow would definitely help and as far as the snail goes, he wouldn't be pooping a lot if he wasn't eating a lot so he must be cleaning something

Well One of the rocks on the sand is getting covered on algae and he goes on there and doesn't eat it. And it's strange because that is the only rock that is getting algae.
tanks for the reply.

Nice try, its a tough word. Detritus. "D" "trite" "us"

Yes, flow will help very much. Once you get the new flow, I would run a filter sock on your drain and blow off the rocks daily. You will notice less detritus after a week or so, and eventually can blow off the rocks less and less.

LOL. thanks. now that I know how it is spelled, I did a water change and sucked out all the detritus. I don't have a sump so where could I place a filter sock?

Do you have a canister filter? If so put a filter sponge in there and clean it daily. Or clean or change the cartridge on a HOB filter.

I have a canister but have heard that having a sponge in there will build up nitrate and cleaning it everyday is too much of a hassle IMO.

Mmmm, the detritus will not remove itself.

You may clean everything, including the sand, let the rock shed for a month-two (removing detritus), and try to keep in the future the very little fed tank (low nutrient system).

The other options ARE a hassle, but this is the best I could find (have the same problem, the first option is unacceptable - inhabitants are requiring the heavy feeding).

- place powerheads and re-make an aquascaping, so that detritus will not accumulate under the LR, but will be blown to the front glass, from there you can siphon it out.
- you can use pieces of washable micron pad in the HOB power filter, after the filter floss (fine filtration after crude filtration), replace daily (I'm using this in one of my tanks too).
- Quick Filter attachment to the power head, I replaced insert in mine every day (once the 3 days is a maximum, IMHO).
- washable micron sock (available from 1 micron to 100 micron, 100 is enough for a most cases, right after cleaning may be 50 or even less - for a few hours).
- if no sump - take a look here, I'm using this system.

Let us know, how it will be going, OK?
