R/O units
My nitrates are fine, but I keep having issues with diatom algae, hair algae and cyano. I only have one eblei angelfish in my 48gal hex, a protein skimmer, and canister filter. I have power-compact lighting on for about 12hrs perday
Would an RO unit help me get rid of these pests? I am starting to wonder if I am getting 'fuel' for these algaes from the city water. |

Unfiltered city water is known to cause algae outbreaks. A good RO/DI unit should significantly help with your algae problem; plus you can drink it right out of the tubing rather than having to buy it in bottles

Most people with reef systems are using RO\DI water for top off. Tap water has too high of TDS(total dissolved solids) to be used for your tank. And yes that tap water you use includes phosphates which feed algae.

Thank god! I feel like I am fighting a losing battle, so R/O it is then! I appreciate the quick response....

RO/DI the Di removes the leftover solids that membrane leaves behind .
