Help me with some aquascaping (pics)

Below are 3 pics which should illustrate my problem and hopefully inspire you to offer some aquascaping improvements. I do like my little "island" rock/coral formation. I don't like the way the back glass looks and keeping it clean is not an option I want to entertain. I would also like to add more rocks corals but without disturbing the "island". I do like the extra water space my fish enjoy to swim in but think that a better balance can be reached.

I don't know if I have enough room in the back to make a rock wall and also wonder how stable it would be and how hard it would be to implement. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

you could try something like these for the back wall.... These are a little expensive but I bet you could make you own.

These look great but the price + mandatory freight shipping would make them a bit much. Does anyone know how you might make something like this with the sort of materials you can find @ Home Depot?

I would assume it's portland cement, or at least that's what it looks like to me.

Try the ultimate diy rocks thread:

You could prob make a small frame to pour the flat piece, then splatter some pieces on top to make the shelves.

Why not add some live rock, topped off with a couple of slab pieces and add what you have to that? That way you'll maintain your island look.
