PE brand mysis and skimmer

I recently purchased PE brand mysis. Fed for the first time yesterday, then again today. Standard procedure. Thaw food in cup of tank water. Drain. Rinse with tank water. Drain. Repeat.

What is in this stuff that COMPLETELY kills my skimmer foam head. I mean, like nothing I've seen before. 2 hours later and still no head Same thing happened yesterday. Anyone experience this? Granted, I get a little foam reduction with other food (H2O mini mysis, gamma mysis, san fran plankton, the list goes on). But this PE stuff....I don't even see bubbles in the second riser after feeding.

PE Mysis is an amazing skimmer foam killer!

Believe it or not, I recently found something even worse.

Any ideas why? Something to do with the fact that they are fresh water in origin (I'm grasping here, I know). Not sure I like losing 3 hours of skimming from one feeding.

BTW, I use san fran brand large pink plankton (large or larger than mysis), not "reef" plankton...no problems with the skimmer there.

No idea why. I normally dont rinse food, but started rinsing the PE Mysis to help with the skimmer. Another trick I use is Prime Reef tends to have the opposite effect. I use 1 cube of PE and one of Prime Reef to balance each other out.

Have you ever TOUCHED the mysis? Then you'd see its just engulfed with oils. Lots and lots of oil!

The oils destroy skimming.

I rinse mine under the faucet, then some tank water briefly, cause there is so much oil! After about 30-45m im skimmg again.

Yikes! Are PE mysis more oily than other brands? Again, FW origin at play here?

I'm thinking this should be an occasional treat, not a heavy staple. What do you all think?

Any theories on effects on fish and/or tank water?

The same hear. The only way to do it is to turn of your skimmer during your feeding. Luckily I have a controller that allows me to put into feed mode for a determined amount of time. I feed it once a day with no problems. As far as effects of the tank, I have not noticed anything but good since feeding it, both corals and fish. Breeders have been using it for years, especially for seahorses.
