What's a good size sump to fit in a cabinet for a 150-gal high?
Hi out there,
I'm in the process of getting all my equipment together for my first saltwater tank. I'm going to start out fish-only, but I know eventually I'll want some corals, so I want to get everything right the first time. My tank is a 150-gal tall-48"Lx24"wx30"H, and it's on a cabinet stand. I'm having the tank drilled and an overflow box installed, and I'm wondering what a good size sump would be to fit inside the cabinet. I don't have a basement, so I don't have the space for a really big sump. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Measure the amount of room you have, consider the lights you'd want on the sump/fuge if any, or heighth needed to work in the thing, space for skimmer, all that, and get the largest you can fit and still work with it. Bigger is always better when it comes to the water quality and margin for error.
I use a 10g sump/fuge for my 55g tank, only about 5 gallons of actual water in the thing. If I could, I'd have a 100g sump on the 55g.

So your sump should be 160 gal or higher maybe? If it is a sand refugium and sump. Thats the way i would do it.
