Increasing the capacity of HOB overflow

I've got a single 1" drain on my overflow now which is a u-tube style. I picked up a Mag Drive return pump from the sump which is now out-flowing the drain (which I expected). Is there a way that I could increase the flow of the overflow? Would it work if I were to drill the box and install a 2nd bulkhead and another U-tube? I'm trying to avoid using one of the larger overflows because of space limitations inside the tank.

BTW the pump is a Mag 9.5 with a 3/4" return line, ball valve and Loc Line that splits into 2x 1/2" nozzles inside the tank.
