Starfish REEF SAFE..HELP ASAP???

Just wondering if this starfish is reef safe. Came with the pulsing xenia i just bought. Need to know before it gets off my glass so I can take it out or not.

Its just has white and brown spots on the other side... if you look close enough it has little tentacles off of each leg.

Please let me know if you know.

Thanks

These things must be pretty common. It seems as if there has been 3-4 threads int he past few weeks on these.

Drummer, is there a particular type of rock that it is found on mostly?

I kept all 7 of mine in my Nanocube and all 3 in the 30 gal. Of course I may have miscounted because they do move rather fast.

Yes I'm keeping mine, at least for now. When I get corals in the tank and if I see him go after them then maybe I'll think about removing, but from everyone else's posts that doesn't seem likely.

There are numerous different species of asterina star, and thier diet can vary from species to species, some may be scavengers, some may eat algea, and some may be predatory as well. For the most part they are considerted harmless, but there are exceptions and a little searching and digging can turn up info on some of the not so harmless ones.

One thing they seem to have in common is how well they are at reproducing. They will drop off a leg, and that in turn will grow into a new starfish, which is why they are so often seen with uneven or stubby legs.

I got 1/3 of mine from the LFS, and 2/3 from online. Both are suppose to be from Fiji.
