I feed my scopas mysis, Ocean Nutrition Special Formula VHP, and also I put some ocean nutrition dried seaweed in there for her to nip at since she has been beating up on my feather duster who once had a 6" tube.

The best is not to go with one type of food, vary their diet.
dried seaweed is great because they can nibble at it all day. Dried Nori (sushi wraps) from an oriental market/store are excellent for this and will cost MUCH less than what you get packaged for the hobby (make sure to get the seaweed with NO additives though) a good veggie flake, and/or veggie based pellet food is also good. Frozen foods (esp. slanted towards veggie blends) are good too, sparingly with these though, they add a lot of fouling agents o the water. Some species are omnivores (Hippo tang noteably), if this is the case, frozen mysis are good, cyclopeeze, meaty blends of frozen foods, homemade frozen foods (research if interested on this one) are a few suggestions on this route throwing in macroalgea from time to time for them to nibble is great too. The key is to vary their diet as much as possible, do not fed them one type of food, or you are risking potential health problems down the line. Ohh another thing.. Selcon!! it works great in tandem with the nori (seaweed sheets) place a dropperfull of this on the seaweed, and let it soak for a bit before adding it to the tank, I usually do this a few times a week. |
