It would work fine on a 150 system, it skims dry or wet depends on how you set it. Great skimmer. If you want to maximze its performance get a foam extraction unit instead of the collection cup.

Foam extraction unit
(9020.140)

including reactor, to be used in DOC Skimmer 9010, 9015 and 9210. With 90 deg. angle and drain hose, diam. 40 mm x 40 cm (1.57 x 15.7 in.).

9020.140 95.28 USD

Thanks for the info.
Anyone else use these style skimmers?
Are there any mods for the tunze?

I have a 9005 in my 75G (Reefpack 500 system). It skims great and as silent as a skimmer could be.

I have a new 9010 to go in my 90. I assume it will perform as well or better than the 9005; so, I am excited

I am not aware of any mods to the units. Falls under "if it aint broke don't fix it" category.

You will not be disappointed. Oh, and one more thing.. They take up very little space

Good.

Very good.

Skims wet, skims great.

Took a while to break in and become silent.

I have it on a 75 display with ~ 100 gallons total, and it cranks.

Completly silent, running on a 100g corner tanks medium sps load , and its working great! I skim dry, but can skim wet very well also. Is literally 1 corner of my sump as its footprint with sump kit is tiny. Also very short if cebinet hieght is a concern. Well worth every penny! I had a aqua remora pro hang on and it was twice the size and 1/2 as effecient - 2 thumbs up!

After a break-in period, my Tunze 9010 collects a cup of wet skim daily from my 75g aquarium with 29g refugium. I am not aware of user modifications to the 9010 but there are options:

#9015.140 cup with taller reaction tube for dry skimming ($105.52)
#9020.140 foam extraction unit for draining to external container ($95.28)

• With the base 9010, you can overflow your collection cup if you maximize the air adjustment valve.
• With the taller 9015.140 collection cup and reactor tube, you can dry skim with the air adjustment valve at full open.
• With the 9020.140 foam extraction unit, you can skim at a higher rate to a container. This is Tunze’s recommended option for maximum skimming with the 9010.

I also am an owner of a 9010. I wanted either a HOB or in tank skimmer---because I do not use a sump. I have a 58 gallon tank. I looked and researched all skimmers A---Z. Price was not an issue. I finally picked the Tunze. Also the support from Roger (go to the Tunze forum) is second to none.
I am completely satisfied.

My 9015 came 3 days ago. I love it! Much better than my Euro-reef.

Small, quiet, easy to clean, whats not to like.

Im glad to hear all the good feed back. I just got home with my 9010 (I think). I did a lil trading. The collection cup seems it may be larger than norm. It reads 100-1300. I do not see a mod. Number?

9015 Collection Cup?

The collection cups do not have model numbers. Does your collection cup look like the cup atop the 9015 skimmer: http://www.tunze.com/149.html?&L=1&C...-infoxunter028?

If so, then you have a 9015 because the 9010 and 9015 differ only in the collection cup. With the taller reaction tube, you should be able to turn your air adjustment valve to maximum and still dry skim.

If you need operating instructions, they can be downloaded from the link above.

I'm an owner of a store and we are running one on our smallest fish systems which is like 150 gallons and it pulls out nice dark green crap everyday. It took a bit to become aged but now its a power house.

I ran the 9015 for the first time last night. I woke up this morning and there was no bubbles climbing the col. cup. It do not know if its working the way it should or not?

Is the skimmer configured for "in-tank" or "in-sump"?

If configured for in-tank mode, the skimmer must be mounted with the water level at the "blue-line." Otherwise, the water level inside the skimmer will be too low. The bottom plate used for in-tank mode has an open grate.

If configured for in-sump mode, the solid plate on the bottom with the suction cups must be sitting on a firm surface to form a seal. Using the riser tube, the pump will raise the internal water level to the "blue line." Without a platform or the bottom of the sump to rest on, the water inside the skimmer will leak out and fail to reach the "blue line."

It is setup in sump.I can see the water with the col. cup off and it is reaching the blue line. Just nothing going on up the tube.

I have the 9015 and the bubbles overfow into the cup immediately if air is cranked up, so it sounds like something is wrong. What might help a little is there is a hole on the backside of the skimmer, I glued a piece of black plastic over it. It is nort needed.

I tried covering the hole for a while. that did not seem to change a thing. The bubbles are only making it to the top of the black body. None up the tube.

The air intake knob is opened and bottom grate is opened where water enters. If so theres something wrong. just turning the air intake knob 1/2 way the cup starts filling with foam in no time.

Suggestions

Well, I guess it’s time to go through a “checklist.” Here’s my suggested checklist FWIW:

1. Download the instructions (http://www.tunze.com/fileadmin/gebra...x9010.8888.pdf).
2. Check the air hose pictured above the pump on page 8. It should be connected on both ends and not kinked or twisted.
3. Make sure all the components pictured on page 34 (English instructions on page 35) are in place
4. Check the solid bottom plate (not the open bottom plate) with suction cups on page 34. It should be inserted with the beveled edge facing outwards. Try not to break the tiny tabs on the front edge of the plate.
5. Make sure the skimmer is resting on a solid surface (sump bottom or platform) for a proper seal.
6. Take out the blue air adjustment valve when operating the skimmer. Foam should reach the top of the reaction tube (and fill the shorter 9010 cup in seconds).

Is your 9015 new or used? If it is used, you might want to clean the skimmer. Unfortunately, after cleaning, it will take another week to break it in.

• Take the pump out and run the pump in a container with vinegar.
• Pour warm water down the skimmer air adjustment opening to rinse out any salt deposits. When you do this with the pump removed, you should see water coming out of the internal air hose.

If none of the above works, get on the Tunze forum. Roger Vitko of Tunze usually responds the next business day.

Thanks for the checklist. I noticed i also have 2 nips for air line that are wide open. Should they be? There is one on each side of the air screw.

The big nipple is the main air intake. It should be clear and open.

The small nipple is for ozone. It is just a secondary source of air (or ozone).

The blue screw is the valve that allows air into the vertical shaft leading to the internal air hose. The air hose is attached to the pump's venturi opening. If the vertical shaft or air hose is blocked, then you need to clear it. If you run water into the opening for the blue screw, the water should run down the shaft and out of the air hose.
