First Coral!!!
We had our first club meeting this weekend and a member was nice enough to give me two frags from his existing collection.
A nice candy cane and a piece of Frog Spawn. I was looking at it tonight after all the lights went out and it seemed closed up, is this normal behavior for them? Or should I be worried. I really don't wanna kill the first piece I get.

Looks great! I love my frog and candycanes. Very cool corals. Just be sure to keep up on your alkalinity and calcium supplimentation. I use Randy's 2-part, works great.

Yes, it is perfectly normal for them (and any other coral for that matter) to close up when the lights go out. They will then open back up when the lights come on so they can photosynthesize or whatever it is they use light for (i think its actually an alga that lives in the coral that the coral eats or something like that....cant remember )

Corals will get smaller at night, it should be fine.

Wow, sorry I didn't even see the other question you posted at the bottom. Yes, both the frogspawn and candycane will close up at night. Check out the feeder tentacles on the candy cane when the lights are off, pretty cool.

yeah I saw the feeders on the candy cane the first night, I was happy to see them out right away.
Drummer do you have a link to Randy's 2-part? All my levels look good now, but always good to have more info.
