What medications would you recommended to have on hand just in case the unexpected happens?

Assuming you have a dedicated med tank, I would have maracyn or tetracycline, copper, metronidazole, and formalin. All of these can be useful but have specific purposes and are only useful in a med tank, with the exception being (IMO) foods that contain an antihelminthic like metronidazole or an antibiotic. These can be used to target feed sick fish in a reef tank with caution.

I like to keep Vodka or Beer around just in case the tank crashes.

an extra aquarium with no substrate, some pvc for hiding places, something like an aquaclear filter or powerhead with a spongefilter that has been running and is ready to handle some bioload, and your water at 1.010ppm. Hyposalinity is much gentler on most fish than using medications and works on the most common illnesses you see in the marine environment. Here is an article that describes it and what it work against.
