Coral Light Acclimation
Ok, I've never had a coral and I recently purchased some GSP, a Taro Tree, and a LPS Open Brain (Trachy~).
From what I understand in order to acclimate, you have to acclimate like any invertebrate. That is slowly. But in addition, you need to light acclimate. My setup is 4 250w Metal Halides with 2 20w Flourescent acintics. The Metal Halides are all on for 7 hours a day in a staggered schedule. (First one comes on, then an hour later the next and so on till they all turn off in the same pattern). The acintics turn on and stay on 2 hours before and after the metal halides. First question, is that too much light? And to light acclimate, could you leave just the acintics on the first day, one halide on its normal schedule the next, another halide on the third, till all the lights are on? |

put them on the bottom of the tank and reduce your photoperiod to 2 hours and then bump it up and hour a day until your back on track. i personally just find a shaded area in my tank and leave them there for a few days and don't mess around with changing the photoperiod but some people do. hth.
