Rubbermaid sump question?

I am looking to make a rubbermaid sump. Its just for my skimmer and to allow my heaters to go in there. What are some good tips for what to do to avoid any future problems? Which are good and which should i keep away from?

Depending on the room you have to work with, I would look into the Poly Rubbermaid stock tanks...

If you have room I would go with the 100gal...

POLY TANKS

Structural Foam Stock Tanks

You didn't say how the water is going to be transported out of the skimmer sump. So I'll assume it will be either by a pump or by gravitational fall into another container.

Anyway you do it, just make sure that the container you ultimately use as your skimmer's sump, will have enough additional volume to safely hold any water that will back siphon from your tank in the event of a power failure.

Also, from my experience, the Sterilite containers maintain their shape better than the Rubbermaid units do. I'm speaking of thin walled storage bin-type containers of the 30 gallon category.

One more thing:
I've notice lately that more and more of the Rubbermaid containers are being manufactured with the Microban Antimicrobial protection process. This stuff is not recommended for use in marine environments.

I am thinking of using sterlite or similar type of container to put inside of my aquariums stand. It is going to house my skimmer and heaters. I plan on making a fuge possibly too.
