Thumbs up Austin Oceans Foaminator 2000 pics!!!

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

Just wanted to share some pics of this SWEET skimmer. It replaced my Reef Octopus DDNW-150 dual pump recirculating skimmer. The twist lock riser tube is a snap to remove for cleaning and the Banjo quick connect makes it super easy to connect or remove from the pump. It cost a little more than some of it's competition but worth every penny. I also love what they did with the interanl baffle plate. No need for u-tube mods with this thing! Great skimmer, built like a tank!

Well, I ran the Octopus up until I put the 2000 in its spot. I also got the waste collector which it filled up twice within the first three days. You can see from the pics that I am not skimming that wet. I also do large water changes, run high flow and keep a very clean BB tank. The Octopus would pull 1/4 of that and I had the venturis and needlewheels modded for more airflow. Anyhow, just wanted to share.

well I have to chime in that I have seen this skimmer in action and it really IS worth every penny. I have never seen a skimmer that small perform that well. The features are really nice and it is indeed built like a tank. funny router marks on the flanges, but other than that, very well done.

I looked seriously at a new Euro-Reef skimmer recently but in the end I went with the Austin Oceans 5200. I agree that it they produce a very nice skimmer - I think it's the best available. They have a serious engineer that has spent years perfecting the skimmer design and the performance is outstanding. And the price is very reasonable considering the price of other high end skimmers. Good choice. Let us know your experience after it has been running for a while.

I have an PCX pump I bought to drive it. I dropped it in with a Rio YES RIO!! Hyperflow 32 and it is working great with it. Those photos were taken with the Hyperflow. 82 watts.

For that much money I think I would just spend the extra and get a deltec.

What benefit would that get me? I'm getting just under 50 scfh of air with the beckett and lots of water flow through it and I can use many different pumps with it.

Nice choice on pumps sherm, The hyperflows are pretty good for driving becketts.
Nice nog there!
Wonder how a laguna pump would do on that bad boy.

Thanks Creetin! I guess it was a mixed blessing having the MR2 get broken up on me! Hope it worked out for you with UPS. I'm not familiar with the laguna pumps.

Nice skimmer! I think that the MAX 5200 and the MTC HSA 3000 are pretty comparable in size and price. I would hard pressed to choose between the 2. Seems like the Max 5200 has more bells and whistles.

That makes no sense to me at all, but I hear it all the time. Can you explain why a Deltec would be a better choice?

I wonder how does this compare to ATI's Bubble Master 250, I just can't see myself drive a skimmer with a huge external pump that uses so much electricity vs. 2x 25 watter on the BM250. Or are these two completely different beasts which can't be compared. Price wise I think they pretty similar after factoring in a gigantic pump which you will have to buy. Did I say gigantic or huge, well you get my point.

The pump I am using is drawing 82 watts. I don't know for a fact but I'm sure it processes the water faster as well. There is much debate about contact time and some recent articles suggest a very short contact time (beckett) is just as effective as longer ones.

I'd say the skimmer is all broken in now. Still running great. Jonathan was over a while back and was asking where all the noise was, that becketts were suppose to be noisy. I just laughed and said I have no idea why people say that. I've had a few becketts and never noticed any of them being noisy.

quit bragging Sherman...anyone who knows skimmers at all knows that one is sweet. really man, that thing was blasting away when I came over for the fights. Very impressive indeed.

I talked to Don about it and he is interested to see it. He just has an HOB and I think he wants to upgrade.

dude...another bottle? what happened to the last one? I am so bent from working in the store I am not sure I can do anything. I was going to invite you over here for a while and show you my naso, but it got so ripe I had to toss it. Andrea will be at work for some time...maybe until 7 or 8pm. I'll check with her and see what's up?

Not sure about the Octo...we haven't really checked out how it can be set up. Not sure it will fit inside with the lamp and I haven't gotten my head around doing a sump either. The other thought is to work in Rick's 92.5g...Don offered an interesting HOB mesh mod like the one he has on his tank. Seems like that one would do better than what I have now (DON"T SAY IT!).
