Looking for a furniture-quality stand and canopy...
Does anyone know of a good place (or places) in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area to buy a new furniture-quality stand and canopy? It's for a 92 gallon corner bowfront.
The tank is going in a room with good furniture and a pine stand just won't do. A stand made out of maple veneers and stained with minwax or similar would be ideal. I've been to many a fish store in the Miami area and most don't have stands on display at all, and when they do, they are of very low grade. I've never had so much trouble parting with money before Any help would be appreciated. |

Contact Pat at Reef Life. He works with a local guy that makes custom stands and canopies. Maybe he does bow-fronts too. I've seen the work. It is definitely furniture quality. You will be parting with that money though.

Yep, furniture quality isn't cheap, that's for sure. We built our own stand and canopy, then covered it in cabinet faces from kraftmaid (same stuff that's in our kitchen). It cost a small fortune, but turned out very nice.
The fact that yours is a bowfront will probably complicate things a bit...

SirJohn, Another affordable option would be to find a decent carpenter and asking him to modify a standard stand for that purpose.
I did this a few times back in NJ were I knew a carpenter, His work was awesome and it cost a fraction of what similar looking furniture would have cost. |

I seem to recall Doral Aquarium and Reptile having a 90G Corner with a high end stand, or at least much higher end looking than the typical pine stand. Might want to give them a call to verify my memory and go check it out if they do have it.

Also ask at the LFS, do they have a custom cabinet maker they work with. I remember wanting a canopy for 46g bowfront, and they are really hard to find premade....
Well a few of the LFS had carpenters they work with, so they would have the carpenter call me and give me a qoute.
